In January 2019 Natedal convened in Berlin, Germany for a week of composing, performing, and recording. Their debut album represents a culmination of the material developed over this trip, music characterized by its intensity, curiosity, and passion.

A series of confessions, "Predisposed" interrogates the notion of bodies as material limitations: conduits that, however flawed, mediate identity, intimacy, and the intangible. As humor, fear, anger, sadness, and love are expressed effortlessly as one, listeners are not only prompted to reflect on the depth of their related personal experiences, but are also offered a space of healing and compassion.

"Predisposed" is comprised of both predetermined and improvised material, with its structure a dynamic result of the ensemble’s playing. In Natedal’s interactive, embodied, and collaborative composition, a collective consciousness emerges; we take the intersection of each artist’s unique perspective to travel from one emotionally-charged sonic place to another, revealing the shaky lines with which society attempts to separate the physical from the psychological, the self from others around them. Our hope is that through such a journey, a truly healing form of vulnerability and connection can be uncovered and shared with all people.

The album emerges as a thrilling intersection of three undeniably unique and musically formidable voices. With Aliya Ultan on cello, Eden Girma on live electronics, Natalie Greffel on bass and percussion, and all three artists on vocals, a diverse array of approaches to composition combine in an incredibly dynamic, engaging, and almost theatrical form of improvisation.

It is clear from “Predisposed” that Natedal is poised to be an impressive force in the musical world – expanding the place where through-composition and improvisation meet, and building a space for people to engage meaningfully with themselves and one another.
